JOCKSTRAP ACID

London's prestigious music college Guildhall is the birthplace of the music duo Jockstrap. Georgia Ellery and Taylor Skye use electronic beats fused with samples, flutes and strings supplemented by Georgia's Charlotte Gainsbourg-esque vocal style, creating something very contemporary and fresh. Their new single 'Acid' is their first since singing to Warp Records and is a truly superb piece. The layered string part that introduces the song could soundtrack a 1940's thriller, followed by piano stabs sit satisfyingly alongside the simple beat. The song is intersected with weird and wonderful samples and erratic gameboy synth sounds, adding a trippy edge. Georgia's vocals dance around jazzy scales with both ease and tenacity. 'Acid' merges the wonderfully vintage feel from the string and piano arrangements, with the contemporary quality that comes from the electronic production. 'Acid' is a track for Georgia's brother. She explains: “It’s expansive, vibrant and filled with love. Taylor designed this beautiful sound world: I sent him a 6/8 ballad and he sent me back this other worldly thing.” Adding to this, Taylor says, “Georgia sent me this swooning, expressive, tender piano demo and I did my best to match it. It was real fun to produce. I feel like this is the most uplifting song we’ve made so far - it almost has summer vibes.” Check out this weird and wonderful new piece now and you can catch Jockstrap EartH in London on 5th February. -Ellie Rose-Davies
